I%26#039;m 38 weeks pregnant....this upcoming Friday is my last day at work (baby is being born next Wednesday) and this week my ankles are to the point of being so swollen, not one pair of sandals or shoes fit, except flip-flops. I work for an Engineering Firm in the Legal department and of course, working in that department, the dress code is nicer. More on the business side. Since this is my last week, I wore flip-flops today (it%26#039;s my only option!) but my boss still hasn%26#039;t noticed. Should I be allowed to do this or will it be necessary for me to go out and buy a whole new pair of sandals for work this last few days? What do you think about this?
Should I be allowed to break dress code at work due to a pregnancy related issue?
It%26#039;s ridiculous to buy another pair of shoes! I had the same problem when I was pregnant, and I wore the same shoes for the last 2 month of my pregnancy cause I was soo swollen.
Your pregnant and you have other things to buy than another pair of shoes...I would just keep wearing the flip flops and if someone says something...tell them it%26#039;s the only pair of shoes that fit you due to you being swelled.
Besides, for medical reasons, you should be able to get away with it.
Reply:You should be at home with your feet up.
Reply:I am pretty sure that legally, even dress codes are included in where employers must make accomodations for medical reasons. Never mind what jerks woudl they be to make you get a new pair for 4 days? Just stay at your desk maybe they wont see lol
Reply:I probably would have asked my boss if I could bend the dress code and not just hoped he/she wouldn%26#039;t notice. I think it shouldn%26#039;t be a problem, especially if you sit at a desk all day long. If you interact with customers, you might want to go out and buy a pair of cheap slides or mules that you can wear the next few days.
Reply:My work said %26quot;wear whatever you want...we are just happy you are here!%26quot;. Just talk to your boss and tell them you don%26#039;t want to go buy new stuff for a few days so can you please just do what you can? Good luck!
Reply:I don%26#039;t see why it should be a problem. I would still talk to him and explain why, and hopefully he/she will be understanding.
Reply:since day 1 of pregnancy my boss has allowed me to break the dress code in order to be comfy...he knows clothes are expensive and didnt want me to spend alot on work clothes alone...it got the point i was wearing yoga pants or capris tee shirts and sandals....so i think your boss should def allow you to be comfy especially on your last few weeks
Reply:I think you should probably talk to your actual boss about this.
Reply:I would, im also due anyday now and i know my sneakers nor any shoes fit or will even go over my feet, ive been living in my oldnavy slip flops
Reply:why dont u ask ur boss.. tell him u have this week left and only shoes u feel comfy in since ur feet are swollen and u really didnt want to buy new shoes for a week cause u wont be able to wear them after the baby... bet he says its fine
Reply:If I were you, I would just wear the flip flops since you say Friday is the last day. If you were like me that still has 2 more months to go, then yes I would tell you to go buy a new pair of nice sandals. Its only from now till Friday, these days are going to fly by and Im sure your boss will understand. Your stomach must look like its ready to pop and I doubt your boss is thinking of what shoes you are wearing. Like I said, me myself, I still have 2 more months and Im scared to wear even SANDALS! ( I wear really comfortable low heels). But at my last week, especially just 3 more days, DONT WORRY! Go barefoot if you want! lol just kidding..lol! Youll be okay, Im sure he wont mind, Friday is like literally right around the corner! I look up to women like you that work till there almost about to pop! Goodluck and congrats!

Reply:You should have an alternate dress code at work for pregnancy related issues and if you don%26#039;t, go talk to your HR representative instead of your boss, because your boss has bosses he has to report to while the HR department usually can override that sort of thing.
Reply:I am sure it will be alright once you explain your situation to him. I don%26#039;t think they will have a problem with it. My boss let me get away with stuff when I was that far along that normally I couldn%26#039;t. Good luck %26amp; Congrats
Reply:You get a pass. As insensitive and clueless as most of us are, there is not a man alive that will complain about the dress code for a woman who is as pregnant as you. Also, you already have plenty of bonus points built up just for hanging in there for this long. Trust me, your boss is worried that your water will break any minute and would be more than happy to give you the rest of the week off if you asked. He is impressed that you are still around and will allow you any license you need with the dress code.
Good luck with everything!
Reply:Why don%26#039;t you talk to your boss, explain to him you can%26#039;t afford a new pair of shoes and that your feet are only comfortable in flip flops right now. I%26#039;m sure he/she will understand. If you try to hide it then the boss could get mad, if your honest...it%26#039;s better.
Reply:First off be comfortable....It is better to ask forgiveness, than permission.
Reply:He should understand talk to him first ,and tell him why thoguht.
Reply:Oh yes, you can wear your flip-flops. I wore them for the last month of my pregnancy (and jeans) and the other teachers didn%26#039;t care. You just need to be comfortable.
Reply:I think you should wear what makes you comfortable.. If your boss is a woman she should understand.. Now if its a man he may not appreciate your flip flops so much but im sure it will not hurt if your last day if Friday.. My boss would not care one bit.. Hes extremely nice and understanding.. Good Luck with the little one..
Reply:If ur boss hasnt noticed then just keep wearing them until someone says something. i doubt the will though u only have a few days left at this stage. good luck with the baby.
